Installing TeamViewer for Macintosh
TeamViewer will allow One Click Wonders to connect to your Mac to resolve many potential problems without coming to your home. The connection is secure and password-protected (with a new, unique password that only you will know each time it is used). The only caveat is that the Mac must be connected to the Internet. The software is free for you to download and install. One Click Wonders has paid a substantial annual license fee to permit us to use TeamViewer for your support. We would welcome a donation to offset the cost but it is not a condition of support.
Downloading and installing it is like any other software on the Internet:
Start by launching your favorite web browser. I'm using Safari for these instructions, but Chrome or Firefox will work just as well. Enter the URL address http://www.teamviewer.com into the address bar of the browser and press [return] on your keyboard.
You will arrive at the TeamViewer download page. Accept any requests for cookies or other conditions to view the page. Scroll down to a prominent green button marked "Download for free" (I've added a red arrow to point it out here) and click it once. This will begin the download to your "Downloads" folder on your computer.
Your Mac may ask permission to make the download. If so, press "Allow".
After two minutes, you can Quit out of your web browser. Click on your Mac desktop with your mouse, then pull down from the "Go" menu in the menubar to select your "Downloads" folder.
In your Downloads folder, locate the file "TeamViewer.dmg". Double-click it to open the installer.
When the installer window opens, follow the instruction to "...double-click the icon to start TeamViewer".
Now you will walk through all the usual steps for installing software. At the welcome screen, click "Continue".
On succeeding windows, click "Continue", "Continue", "Agree" and "Install". At this point, your Mac will ask permission to install the software. Grant permission by putting in your administrative password (same one you usually log in with) and click "Install Software".
The software installation should take less than a minute, ending with a message that installation was successful. Click the "Close" button to exit the installer. Now you want to locate the software installation. Click back on the desktop with your mouse and pull down again from the "Go" menu, but this time to "Applications".
Locate TeamViewer in your Applications folder and double-click it to open.
When TeamViewer opens, it will ask you to sign into your account. You do NOT need to do that. Simply click "Not Now" and then click on the "Remote control" tab on the lefthand side of the screen.
At this point, if you want to call Dave for remote assistance (864.710.7009), you may do so. On the phone, you will have to give me "Your ID" and "Password", both under "Allow Remote Control". That password will only be good for one session and, should you need help again, you will have to relaunch TeamViewer from your Applications folder and give me both items again.
And that's it. I know there are a lot of steps, but if you print out these instructions, they should be fairly easy to follow. And you can always call me if you get stuck!
